What is a Giclee?

Giclée (pronounced zee-clay) is a Museum Quality Art Reproduction.   A Fine-art Giclée is the closest possible representation of an original painting due to highly advanced digital printing technology.  An ultra-high-resolution art printer uses eight or more cartridges of the very finest archival inks on acid free paper.

A Fine-art Giclée is created as tiny jets spray millions of droplets of archival, pigmented inks onto a sheet of acid free paper. This spray of ink, more than 4 million droplets per second, whirls onto paper spinning on a drum at 250 inches per second.  Gicleé (zee-clay) is a coined art term from the French word which means fine spray.

A Certificate of Authenticity usually accompanies the Giclee print. It lists the title and size of the limited edition.  Numerous examples of giclee prints can be found in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Chelsea Galleries.
